Since 2006, we have been working hard to make St. Catharines better. Now the real work begins.
There will be challenges ahead and we will need real local solutions – not just platitudes – to keep your city moving forward.
For the first time in a generation, St. Catharines is getting its fair share. Since I was first elected, the federal government has responded by investing more than $372 million in our city.
Now we must build on those investments. Working together, we can make a better St. Catharines that the next generation will call home.

New moms and dads will be able stay home with their baby for up to 18 months with job protection and by stretching out Employment Insurance Benefits. Approximately 2,700 babies were born at our new Niagara Health Centre in its first year.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has announced new work and income benefits for moms and dads having a baby. A re-elected Conservative government will provide up to 18 months of job protection for new parents and the option to stretch Employment Insurance (EI) benefits over 18 months. The Prime Minister also announced that women receiving maternity benefits and parents receiving parental benefits would be able to earn additional employment and self-employment income while receiving EI benefits.
GM and the Niagara auto parts industry will grow because of a 10 year, $1 billion extension of the Automotive Supplier Innovation Program leading to unprecedented global trade opportunities, new incentives for investment, modern infrastructure and low taxes.
“Our Conservative government has a plan for long-term growth in the auto sector and our manufacturing industry,” Prime Minister Harper said. “Our low-tax plan is creating economic growth, even in the face of global economic instability.”
